New Delhi, June 25 (IANS) Actor Brian Cox says his TV show "Succession" is a modern version of the hugely popular fantasy show "Game of Thrones" (GoT).

"'Game of Thrones' is absolutely about succession... About who takes over (the Iron Throne)," Cox told IANS over the phone.

"Succession", which airs in India on Star World, follows the lives of the Roy family as they contemplate their future once their aging father (essayed by Cox) begins to step back from the media and entertainment conglomerate.

"The original idea was to kill my character off at the end of the first season. But then they decided to keep me on...They decided that I will have a stroke and then the whole question of succession will come under scrutiny. And it still continues...about who is going to run the business," he added.

"Game of Thrones", based on George R.R. Martin's novels, was all about the quest to claim the Iron Throne. But it also stood for complicated political gambits, scheming and the backstabbing nature of people and finding love in troubled times. The show, which started in 2011, wrapped up this year.

"It is a modern version of GoT except that we don't chop people's heads off," he said on a lighter note.
