Ulan-Ude (Russia), Oct 9 (IANS) Jamuna Boro (54 kg) on Wednesday thrashed Algerian fifth seed Ouidad Sfouh 5-0 in the pre-quarterfinals to enter the last-eight stage of the ongoing Women's World Boxing Championships.

The 22-year-old, participating at the Worlds for the first time, dominated the bout as her punches were more accurate than the defending champion on a consistent basis during the entire duration of three minutes.

She started off slowly but as the bout progressed, she started to get into her groove. The first two rounds saw both the pugilists fight an engaging battle. However, Jamuna dominated the third round.

The judges' points at the end stood 28-29, 27-30, 27-30, 27-30, 27-30 in Jamuna's favour.

Jamuna, a bronze-medallist at the 2015 Youth World Championships, had defeated Mongolia's Michidmaa Erdenedalai 5-0 in her opening round clash.

She will now play her quarter-final clash on Thursday and a win there will ensure her maiden worlds medal.

Earlier, six-time champion Mary Kom had advanced to the quarterfinals after winning her opening bout in 51 kg category. Mary beat Thailand's Jitpong Jutamas by a unanimous decision in the pre-quarters after she had received a first-round bye.

Apart from Mary and Jamuna, Manju Rani (48kg) is the other Indian pugilist to reach the quarter-finals of her weight class.
