New Delhi, Dec 4 (IANS) Joining the party's Delhi unit and the Youth Congress in lending a helping hand to agitating farmers on the borders of the national capital, the Congress farmer's wing, the Kisan Congress, remains headless even a year after its national chief Nana Patole became the Maharashtra Assembly Speaker.

Patole, who was made the chief of the Kisan Congress in September 2018, had offered to step down after the 2019 Lok Sabha poll debacle, but his resignation was not accepted by the party.

Since December 2019, the Kisan Congress has been functioning without a regular chief, even during the massive farmers agitation on the Delhi-Haryana and Delhi-Uttar Pradesh borders over the three farm laws.

Thousands of farmers have been demanding the repeal of these laws. Their second round of talks with the government on Thursday remained inconclusive, and the third round is scheduled to take place on Saturday afternoon.

In absence of Patole, Surendra Solanki, who is the Vice President of Kisan Congress has been discharging his duties and trying to keep the organisation alive by raising the issues of farmers.

He has even staged protest along with his supporters outside the residence of Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar during the nationwide lockdown amid Covid-19 pandemic.

Even in the farmers agitation, Solanki has came forward and has been helping farmers at the Delhi-Haryana Tikri and Singhu borders.

A senior party leader, who did not wish to be named, said that there are several appointments pending in the organisation.

"Due to Covid-19 pandemic, most of the appointments were delayed. But from January to June all the appointments within the party will be done."

Earlier this week, Congress interim chief Sonia Gandhi approved the appointment of Srinivas B.V. as the regular chief of Youth Congress. Srinivas has been discharging the role of IYC interim chief since last year.

Similarly last week, she has approved the additional charge of Treasurer to senior party leader Pawan Kumar Bansal after the death of the incumbent, party veteran leader Ahmed Patel.
