5/3/1764Mir Kasim, with the backing of Delhi Emperor, attacked on Patna but this weak Emperor was defeated by Britishers. Britishers became the rulers of Bengal, the richest province of India.

2/10/1806Father Kuriakose Elias Chavara, freedom fighter and social reformer, was born at Kainakary , Kerala.
4/9/1965Fighting breaks out in the Rann of Kutch between Indian and Pakistani troops. Pakistan attacked Indian borders, Sardar Post, Chhar Bet and Beria Bet, this was manned by the State Armed Police Batallions. In Kutch launched its 8th Infantry Division supported by two regiments of M47/48 Pattons. Operation 'Desert Hawk' was launched to draw away reserves from other vulnerable areas, and possibly to test India's resolve. The Indian Army did not rise to the bait.
12/28/1931The second round of a British-Indian conference on the political future of India collapsed in disagreement over demands by Indian nationalists for complete independence. The British government had seemed willing to grant a limited dominion status. But Mahatma Gandhi, who had come to the conference to present the demands of the All-India Nationalist Congress, refused to accept anything less than complete independence. The breakdown of the talks set off a new round of disorders, Gandhi was greeted by rioting in the streets of Bombay between upper-caste Hindu members of the Congress party and ""untouchable"" caste members who had turned against him.
